This mini showcase is to show all the screens I was able to make and assets that were created to do so.

  • The different medals

  • The clock I made

  • The clean screens I made for the tech team.

My Work

I jumped into this project to help fix up some of the menus layouts. The game was pretty much completed however the team asked me to join because they wanted a better user interface design than what they had previously. Because the game was already near completion there was very little input that I had most of the team had checked out due to art and design locks.

I looked at the original state of the score screens and end game screens. There were quite a few awkward placements and not themed icons.  There were so many number places it didn't seem realistic for gameplay.  The Buttons were square which didn't seem to fit with the rest of the theming.

With the medal system, the person before me decided that stars were the default completely different from the actual theme of the game.

So as I got on I asked the team questions about the system and art assets and then got to work on fixing it up.

Original State

Honey Hustle Trailer

I started by rearranging the level clear screen, chunking the score and bonuses together with the total score separated for a cleaner look. I made the font bigger for easier reading and got the proper amount of placeholder zeros for the potential max amount of points players can earn.  I rounded the buttons and removed the clutter in the bottom right.

For the end of game screen I moved the score above the medal earned. I made the medals from scavenged art assets with the permission of the art department. For the medals, I decided to do them in the Olympics style (1, 2, 3) but with bees.  I felt like the generic "You've completed Honey Hustle" was lacking in flavor for the game, so I made three phrases to encourage replayability and congratulate the player for getting gold.

The font was custom and had some spacing issues but nothing could be done about it due to the art lock. I was able to give feedback to the artist about the spacing between specific characters.
